About Jeff Gatesman

About

Jeff Gatesman

I am a Chicago-born, Los Angeles-based Director/DP and Still Photographer. I believe that to be a great maker of images you need a keen sense of style, and having lived a life watching and loving classic cinema and getting an education in film history and aesthetics as well as living in modern, world class cities, I believe my strong visual style has developed into one that combines a modern aesthetic with classic composition. My aim is to always tell visually stunning stories whether motion picture or thorugh my fine art photography.

I studied film making and cinematography at Columbia College, Chicago, and the art of still photography at FAMU in Prague, CZ. I have lugged heavy camera rigs rigs through the  Yucatan rain forest to shoot Mayan Ruins in 3D, shot the Amazon River in anamorphic High Definition video, strapped cameras to roller coasters and race cars, and shot a herd of stampeding buffalo from the bed of a moving pickup truck.

My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.

Inspiration

I get my inspiration from great Cinematographers and Photographers, so I spend a lot of time watching films and going to art museums. However I am most surprised and inspired by the beauty that exists and appears when you least expect it, in Nature.

Techniques

I am exploring digital techniques for processing and printing my work every day, but I have found my most gratifying processes to be classic printing techniques, such as my series of Lith Prints of the Whirling Dervishes of Turkey.

career highlights

A Gold Aurora Award for my documentary Tears Of A Full Moon, shot in the Brazilian Amazon. An Honorable Mention from the Advertising Photographers of America for my portrait of a Whirling Dervish entitle A Quiet Bright Reed Song.

Verified Archival Materials Used

The Art Storefronts Organization has verified that this Art Seller has published information about the archival materials used to create their products in an effort to provide transparency to buyers.

Description from Merchant:

Every piece of art that you purchase from Gatesman Photography is printed using high-quality archival inks on fine art papers from Hahnemuhle and Moab. These combinations produce images with smooth tones and rich colors that last. Even the finest photographic paper is sensitive to it's surroundings and can be affected by temperature, humidity, and exposure to bright light and contaminates in the air, but a properly framed and hung print from us can have an archival life expectancy of more than 80 years.
